Komiza is second big town on island Vis with about 1500 inhabitants. First written document came from 12th century. Island Vis was in second half of 20th century a military zone, unburdened with tourism and intense building in coast area. Thanks to that, today Vis is one of the pearls of the Adriatic sea in Croatia. Until recently Komiza was a small fisherman’s town, with people mostly dealing with fishing, and less with agriculture. Everything that was built in that picturesque little town in the last few centuries was built thanks to the effort of fishermen from Komiza and processing of blue fish, altough in last few years in Komiza it is not so easy to find pilchards. Emigrants from Komiza moved across the world. In San Pedro, town in California, today live ten times more people from Komiza than in Komiza. Some estimates talks about 20-25 thousand people from Komiza and their descendants in America. Komiza became an exclusive touristic destination, with intimate atmosphere and rich gastronomic offer that attracts more and more guests. A poetic fishermens’ town with largest number of sunny days in year, with hundred years old carob trees, picturesque stony houses, curative mediterranean plants and vegetation like rosemary, garden-sage, lavender, lady’s grass, where the grapevine used to covered hillsides, which surround this pearl on three sides...
