The town of Murter is located on a small island which is roughly about 18 square kilometers in area, and is also named Murter. This largest town on the island used to be known as Srimac, until it was named after the island in the 1700’s. The town of Murter has about 2,000 residents, and their economy is dependent on fishing, wineries, and olive harvesting.
Murter, like many other seaside village in Croatia, possesses the rustic charm that merges the old with the new. Visiting this venue lets you appreciate the simplicity of Croatian life, as well as the beauty of its beaches. Murter is found on the Hramina Cove, where many historic and Roman-influenced sites are well preserved, dating back to the 14th to 15th century. Some noted Baroque style churches in Murter include the Church of St. Michael and the Church of Our Lady.

Because the Hramina Cove is idyllically situated at the foot of the mountains, the waters are in a way shielded from extremely strong winds.
